It's a Resident Evil 4 clone with a batshit Twin Peaks plot. Localizing it must've been a blast.

FYI the controls are GARBAGE. The shooting is functional. The driving is a mess. It has heart, though.

Deadly Premonition won't work, regardless of what I do to it. Thanks GOG, I'll just play some more Red Faction.

Dark Souls 3 better be as good as Bloodborne.

Let's do this.

It doesn't really have the same mechanic(s) as BB, but I still found it good. Unfortunately I do think the combat is worse than DS2, which kinda had more variety.

Also, poise is garbage, so if you're used to dodging like Goku in BB, then you'll be at home rolling in light armor in DS3.

Also, wear a piece of armor on every available slot. Somehow they even fucked up that thing whereby if you don't have every armor slot equipped, you will take drastically more damage - even if it's shitty cloth rags. Invincibility-frames for rolls are at least consistent unlike in DS2, though, whereby upping one of your stats increased your i-frames on your dodges, which sucked early on.

Also the claymore sucks unlike its counterparts in DS1 and 2.

Also the four pronged pitchfork is OP in PvP. People can't handle my long poking stick (...until they remember that parrying is a thing, at which point I'm fucked).

I will avoid PVP like the plague until I am proficient at combat. It seems sloppier than Bloodborne, and I've already picked up a few utterly useless bits of kit that don't match the stats of my starting weapons.

This never happened in Bloodborne, the weapon selection was comparatively limited, but every single bit of kit had utility.

Dark Souls 3 seems to take the shotgun approach, and feels a lot more loose as a result.

Yup, a lot of weapons have stupidly similar movesets. Also, getting hit by anything with some exceptions will knock you out of your current animation in DS3.

BB got flack for its lack of weapons, but my understanding of that game (having not played it) is that even then each weapon had ridiculous amounts of utility to it in, even though there were only a dozen of them. Also, Gehrmann's scythe thing looked bad ass as shit.

But, well, I enjoyed my time with it. It has some good spectacle bosses and moments. It's certainly the easiest of the three/four/five games.

Each weapon had a "long mode" and a "short mode" effectively doubling the number of available weapons. In addition to that you have a variety of firearms that can be used in conjunction with the melee weapons, not to mention all the weapons that cross the boundaries (some weapons have a 2 handed mode that denies use of guns, some weapons have built in guns, etc etc etc).

Every weapon in Bloodborne was cool in its own way. I'm not currently feeling very invested in the kit selection aspect of DS3.
I'll eventually get bored and just go for my baseline weapon selections (I do it in every melee focused game), one sword type for slashing, one spear type for thrusting. Done.

Dark Souls 3 have weapon specific "stance" attacks. Most are forms of guard break/armor piercing, but special-er weapons have specific magic attacks.

TBH the most useful one is on daggers, which give a BB-esque quick step.

You mean Hacknet or Nethack?

Cause if you mean Hacknet then that time when Naix counter-hacks you I literally crashed my server the very second he got in (via Forkbomb) and still he got my GUI. Which is bullcrap.

And if you mean Nethack, well then

yeah hacknet, not nethack. Is uplink any good?

I really dug the final mission. It's a good mix of the music and the UI and basically a frantic pace.

As for your issue, I set up shells and triggered them when he did his thing, then forkbombed my own comp. I didn't seem to lose my gui but forkbomb seems to give you a new x-server each time? Not sure.

The game is fun and I'm wondering whether the Russian translation holds up.

Only played the Uplink demo aeons ago, but it was nice if I remember correctly.

Well, according to the logs he deleted my x-server so then using the basic interface I hacked him back and took his x-server. Though his is fugly so I'll try getting another one.

I've yet to finish the game though. Pro-tip, don't know if it's obvious but to me it wasn't, when you issue a command, specifically rm *, it will finish even if you dc. Learned this by dcing with 1 second left on the trace and the rm * had only started then, but finished deleting everything long after I was gone.

Also that Notes app is a fucking RAM killer.

You are kinda right, it's something of an exploit that can be used to get around a particular (completely optional) puzzle.

Uplink is pretty cool and I recommend it if you enjoyed Hacknet. However it's much more difficult and it's also possible to get screwed through factors outside of your control. At the start of the game all the possible missions are randomly generated, each of these has a certain difficulty and a certain amount of money rewarded depending on the difficulty. You need the money to buy the upgrades so you can complete the more difficult missions, however it's entirely possible that if there are not enough missions at the right difficulty level you won't have enough money to buy those upgrades and you'll be stuck unable to progress.

In uplink all the security gets reset after you disconnect, so if you disconnect to avoid a trace you have to start the hack from the beginning.

Also there's no command line :(

Quadrilateral Cowboy is elite haxxor heist master simulator and its whole gameplay concept is genius if a little unforgiving at times.

It's really fantastic, but goddamnit, it's only 3 hours long.

Just when the gameplay really started to come into its own, the game ends. There's only two or so levels that really make use of all the elements in the game. All the other levels have you learning a new mechanic which on one hand is nice because new tools are cool, but on the other hand kind of lacking in depth. There's so many possibilities for all these tools, but like I said before, only two or so levels really make use of all of them.

There's mod support for the game so hopefully it'll receive some levels there. Or if it actually gets some DLC, I'd happily pay for more, but right now I'm left kinda unsatisfied having finished the game.
