i was gonna say, it's the rolls royce of AK-pattern rifles. if you took an AK and said, "what if instead of making this the cheapest and most mass-produceable gun we can, we make it swiss?" you get the sig 550, and the sig 552 is the ridiculously compact version.

Hey, DarkChild, I got a question and a request. If you're interested, would you throw a glance at this book I'll link (whoever else is interested too). It's a short rules book for GURPS called Tactical Shooting and gamifies advanced shooting techniques and stuff into the GURPS system. What I want to know is how accurate it is and how well does it translate the real thing.

I'll give it a look and see how I can help.

Darkchild

Edit: initial impressions, the guy obviously shoots, he seems to know his facts, but strikes me as a well informed civilian rather than a combatant. I'll pick it apart a bit when I've read the whole thing.

Just because you can, doesn't mean you should.

wouldn't you also need two scopes and two triggers?

One trigger fires both barrels, it's effectively a way to waste ammo faster, double the recoil, half the accuracy.

Stupid designer didn't make the mechanisms fire in turns, so the forward/backward motions of the bolt carriers working against each other would balance the weapon

no wait that was me thinking my ruskie thoughts again. Nevermind.

Farquhar Hill rifle. Fully automatic, could take up to a 65 round drum, came with a vertical foregrip, and was in production before world war 1.

To celebrate my army service ending in just a few weeks from now, let's take a look at the thing I had to lug around.

An AK-47 variat that we have actually been using all the way back from the 70's, so I guess it's pretty good at what it does. I knocked myself in the teeth with the back of it at least 6 times.

Already been doing that on every holiday. I got to work a good bit at the medical center, which I actually liked a good bit.

This is actually a Volvo, and I want one. The army name is Pansarvärnpjässterrängbi 9031l. That means anti-armor-gun offroad car. That recoilless rifle makes it unbalanced, and lots of conscripts and servicemen were hurt when their Pvpjtgb:s tipped over. Volvo added some rollbars to it, but the heavy gun was still a problem. I've got a Wargame: Red Dragon deck that uses these. It's not very effective.

Last summer I saw a guy cruising the beaches and roads on the island Öland east of Sweden. His car didn't have the gun or the rollbars, and he was wearing only flip-flops and shorts. I imagine this is how I want o cruise those roads in the future too.

My civilian mates don't understand why I rave about the movie Collateral so much. Tom Cruise uses the EXACT same training that we used operationally as covert soldiers in Northern Ireland throughout the entire movie.
Larry Vickers (ex Delta) has the same enthusiasm for the film.

Other than that, Collateral is still a pretty awesome film. Tom Cruise doesn't get to play the bad guy this much, and I liked that.

Collateral is great.

I remember watching it with some friends, and one had a problem with the last gunfight. Basically, his gripe was that if Foxx and Cruise are both firing their guns at pretty much point-blank, even if it's through a subway door, wouldn't they both end up shot to pieces? I figured that shooting through that metal would just be a coinflip basically, but regardless, wasn't that last fight kinda amateurish of Cruise?

Nitpicks. Still love the film.

Vincent does his usual mozambique drill (two body, one to the head) with the stolen 9mm from the guard in the office building, which hits the steel frame of the train door.
Max shoots randomly, which goes through the glass and hits Vincent. The 9mm can't penetrate the door frame, but the .45 is more than enough to kill Vincent via a random hit.

Ironically, it is Vincent's supreme level of training that gets him killed.

Gun time! Me and Aleks went to a very good shooting range and we shot a civilian model AK47 and an SVD.

ImageImage

Here's my results.

SVD (20 rounds at 100m)
Image
Now this rifle was just lovely. Very loud, not as much kick as the AK, beautifully made model overall, and the optic sight was gorgeous to look down.

AK part 1 (20 rounds sitting down, 50 m)
Image
Was already tired after firing the SVD, also lining up iron sights isn't as easy as it seems.

AK part 2 (5 rounds standing up, 15 sitting down, 50m)
Image
Shoulder muscle bit was exhausted and had trouble holding it steady for the first 5 shots (hence me shitting the bed and accuracy sucking ass and so I sat down again). Think I'm actually bruised from the kick of this thing.

A lot of fun, but 60 rounds of high caliber shit whacking into my right shoulder is more than enough. We'll probably go back again and try out some more of their stock.

That's an AKM, not an AK47, and your groupings are awful.
That's what you get for not paying for me to fly over and teach you how to shoot.

But seriously, you need to take advantage of the country you live in, and shoot more guns!
