Highlights of yesterday's stream included:

- incognito mode google image search fun times of soldier poses by such artists as Ron Volstad

Image

- gauss' discussion with the "rule of thirds" in framing a shot i.e. you divide the shot into tic-tac-toe fields and where the lines meet are where the main "beats" of a picture should be.

Image

- the link between 16:9 aspect ratio and the golden spiral on a similar note

Image

- "cheating out" mech legs
- some sort of photoshop plugin painter's color wheel thing.
- Zbrush was born on the Moon.
- hot pussy action (he has a cat)
- Iranian pop music from the 1970s

As a first go it was a lot of fun to watch but I couldn't stay to the end given the time difference. After watching plenty of other twitch bullshit, it's something I'm totally down with seeing both you and your bro doing a little more of because I'm one of those idiots who enjoys random quasi-educational bullshit like this, because this is where I think the true worth of video games lie i.e. not bullshit reactionary remarks to criticism like "it increases learning capacity" or poor debates on the state of video games, but that it serves as a source of inspiration for people to come together, to create, to share and to shoot the shit in chat.

For future streams I'd actually have your webcam image enlarged a little bigger, as you mentioned you had it at the smallest size, so that things are a little more personal. Maybe you can do something about that big ass clunky fan noise, but the music drowned it out most of the time.

Hye guys, just started today's stream. I'm taking screenshots and doing other press related shenanigans. At some point I'll probably hand it over to gauss when he's up and about, probably doing something more interesting than i am.

Currently: http://www.twitch.tv/stellarjockeys/
will switch later to: http://www.twitch.tv/gausswerks/

Fruits of the latest stream-- you guys missed out if you didn't catch it. Did some playtesting, took some screenshots, and had a go at redesigning the Stellar Jockeys logo. What do you guys think?

I like number 1. The text reminds me of some of the Apollo mission badges.

Fruits of the latest stream-- you guys missed out if you didn't catch it. Played some XCOM, dissed some nerds, and got accidentally banned.

Brief highlights of last night were:

- Gauss reveals the truth as to why so many twitch streamers such as salty bet play video game music during their streams.

- Discussion of 20th Century pin up artists Gil Elvgren and Art Frahm.

Image
Image

- Yang's blog post about the Last of Us art dump thread and some sort of artsy fartsy wanky controversy surrounding it.

- Yang does not respond to Zbrush rumors. Also, Ninjas believes EVERYTHING IS OBSOLETE over tea conversation with Yang.

Another suggestion if you have the time or energy would be to have a "before" and "after" pic (or pics) of the stuff you worked on/sculpted/zbrushed/baked in stream as a sort of post mortem. I dunno, just for a funzies round up of every pose you considered for the mech pilot for those coming in late/leaving early (such as what wake did with the SJ logos).

Two ways you can do it-- gauss and i both have our settings such that we auto tweet when a new stream starts, but also if you make an account and then follow our streams:
http://www.twitch.tv/stellarjockeys/
http://www.twitch.tv/gausswerks/

then you'll get an email every time a new stream starts.

Yesterday's highlights (maybe?) included:

- Gauss professing love for the Pevear & Volokhonsky translation of Dostoevsky's "Brothers Karamazov" during liquifier tool fun times - AKA "The Devil's Brush" that is infamous for making Jennifer Lopez' butt and many others look totally different compared to real life on magazine covers - while working on Wake's repositioning of the pilot on top of mech. The cocked foot stance has been replaced with leg crossed in front (didn't take a screengrab, sorry).

- Complaints about NAMING YOUR LAYERS CORRECTLY, KIDS as opposed to something like a mandelbrot file-naming system and totally not redoing literal leg-work that had already been done by Wake.

- Chat confused as to whether the pilot's hand in the background is actually a hand and not four stars clumped together (THANKS NASA)

- Chat confused as to what's in the distance. Gauss decides to google image search of gruesome car crashes for bits of wreakage to give a bit of life to the approaching Iraqi Space Colony Republican Guard.

- Fucking around with shadow details on mech.

- Some other random photoshop tips and tricks like using ctrl + cmd + C to select everything "visible" to the user as well as giving various elements different values to create some sort of trippy color-coded means of discerning each major element of a composition.

- Explanation as to what kitbashing actually is and whether or not it's "cheating", prompting slight shrugs from gauss and discussion as to whether you're really iterating on previous people's work. Short answer: No.

- Long answer: Sure you could waste time doing x, y and z but if it's not your forte then it's more expedient to use stuff that already exists, conveys the same mood and "works". Comparisons drawn to Star Wars and Alien, where set designers and prop masters basically just used old school stuff e.g. cabin interiors of airplane graveyards and Han Solo's pistol.

- Joys of watching Banasaurus Rex's Spelunky solo eggplant playthrough.

- Lorem Ipsum. German instructions in space colony. All-terrain Nazi tank with weird name KEEPS REAPPEARING. Gauss finds out something fun about tank markings used during Desert Storm. NO STEP written on mech. Gauss is really pleased with his weathering on foot rails.

Still pretty sure it's spelled "Kachapaud" and pronounced "Jeff".
